First of all, Caleb was very special to me. I loved him like a son, as if I gave birth to him. His death was very hard on me.
Now to answer your question, human behavior is not that hard to dissect. It’s pretty simple actually. We’ve been talking about the kind of people we seem to always attract. Why is anyone attracted to someone? They see something in that person that speaks to something in them. Killers look for victims that speak to the parts of them they hate, want to silence, want to hold on to, or want to destroy. They all have their reason for seeking out the victims they seek out but it’s always the attraction they immediately have to an individual. You know all those old saying our elders used when we were young and we thought were kind of stupid or wondered what they meant by that? Birds of a feather flock together is one of them. This whole tribal thing we’ve been discussing is another example. We are all drawn to people we feel we can relate best too. Something in you spoke to Benson and he was drawn to it. Maybe it was the way you look at others when you think they aren’t looking. Maybe it was some of your mannerisms. Perhaps it was things you said or showed an interest in. Whatever it was he felt a kindred spirit, a connection. It could be just the sweetness he was attracted to, one of his representatives was very sweet and that part of him felt a connection to that part of you.
