Meeting was intense last weekend and for the month of December let’s continue the discussion here particularly for those who were unable to make it this time.

Top topic was this election. Many of us found ourselves at odds with close family members. I am one of those struggling with parents who voted for trump. I will never call him president trump nor will I capitalize his name. I will have no part in the tragedy I am convinced is about to unfold. We have black children and people being terrorized by groups of bullying white males, punks and I’m real tired of the brunt of racism focusing on black people.

I think he’s going to cause problems internationally and I’m just uncomfortable with this person being in his current position. We also talked about what we will focus on in 2017 and we decided talking about how the fives deal with the ninety fives. How do we go forward?

I liked discussing our fears and discomforts openly during this meeting. As a homosexual male I have many concerns and I’m having some problems with anxiety because of this appointment. I concerned about our democracy namely how little the vote of all American’s seem to matter. We clearly have no democracy in this country and that is being proven more and more as time goes on.

This man is going to disrupt our medical insurance. Every time the republicans are in control we pay a horrible price.

I’m glad we all agree it’s time to get rid of the electoral college. Our votes should matter and the reasons they give for keeping it are all bullshit!

I needed to be at our meeting this fall. I’m telling you I am so worried about what is going to happen and it’s not just trump, it’s the country being run by republicans. They are driving their states into the ground and having them in charge of the country is just frightening. All of it is completely unsettling and I’m tired of dealing with ignorant people who keep voting them in. I think all republicans are in the 95 I’m sorry at this point being republican makes no sense at all. I’m sorry Benny there is no logical reason to be a republican.

The republicans in our group had a hard time at this meeting. None of them could give logical reason they supported a party that causes this country so many problems. I have been slowly pulling away from the republican party because they did so much during Obama’s administration that caused problem it’s unbelievable. I’m tired of our tax dollars being squandered. I just don’t understand after hearing with Ryan was voting on during the gun sit in the democrat house leaders did to protest no action on real gun legislation. They were in the process of doing something that will hurt more average American the improving it…another law like Arbitration. At some point this adoration for cheating has to crumble and republicans lie cheat and steal from Americans all the time.

The meetings are important to me especially now, and the focus we spent on not fearing death was significant to me. It stood out for me because I am having some health issues. Mason talks about how the body begins to feel like a prison when it doesn’t function properly, like a heavy suit holding you immobile. I agree with that.

The weddings were special this time because when Rod and Barb joined the group they were married, now they have moved on and they both look happier for it and I want to thank all of you for welcoming me back.

I think next year’s focus on the 95/5 is going to give us more perspective on the world we live in especially when we can see it clearly. I also think at some point this group think has to be evaluated. When being a part of a group means compromising personal truths and values it's time to make some changes. I mean if the group idea is clearly harmful to yourself and others it no longer makes logical since to remain a part of that group. That includes religious associations. To stick with a belief that isn’t satisfying, makes no sense, is kind of crazy. We have to explore and accept that we are responsible for ourselves not the group. If the group is behaving badly, groups such as racially radical or extremist groups, groups that make it a habit to behave negatively toward other ethnic groups, or religion, groups with little to now tolerance for people who are different sexually, and who have different political affiliations, it's time to reevaluated or association with such groups. It is a show of personal strength to know when a behavior isn’t something that meets with our personal beliefs and values.

I am worried about where do we go with Trump as president. How do we move forward? Rod makes me feel better and now that we are married I feel safe in his arms. But I know my concern being black is not a concern for him. He stands in front of me in a guard like position whenever we are in public. I know he is worried. I also just found out I am pregnant and while that should be joyful news for us it is marred by our concern for black people’s safety. This is the most unsettling thing since Reagan my folks say and Rod agrees. I was young and don’t really remember how things were when Reagan was president but it is the general consensus that he is where homelessness began. My folks feel this is going to be a repeat of Reagan and that’s frightening for me.
