We were able to watch the documentaries over the weekend and both were disturbing. The one, 'Southern Rites' I'm conflicted because I think he was in protection mode but he let it go beyond that so I do think he deserved to go to jail for the short time he went. I do think the parents need to take in to consideration their sons were doing something they should not have been doing. I mean, it seems to me that this is the time to take responsibility for what is right instead of play the complete victims in this situation. His daughter, her friend, and the man who did the shooting are also victims of the bad decisions the teenagers made. At what point do we as parents take some responsibility or at least hold our children responsible for misbehaving. They knew that girl was a minor, they knew they should not be in any man's house at that hour white, black, Japanese, Muslim it wouldn't have mattered the ethnicity of the shooter, or the boys for that matter. They should not have been in that that mans house having sex with his minor daughter, and smoking pot. The parents need to acknowledge their sons had no business in that mans house. It's unfortunate and would be easier for the country to see both sides if each side took responsibility for what happened. Everyone in the situation seems to have admitted their mistakes in the situation. The family of the young man who was killed have not taken responsibility for their son's behavior that evening.
The documentary about Sandra Bland really troubled me. She was murdered and I heard via the news the family was award a little over a million dollars, which to me proves there was foul play. It turns my stomach to know someone went in there and killed that beautiful young woman and they all covered it up. All of them. She was arrested illegally and she was senseless murdered while in the custody of law enforcement. I'm sick of how this is allowed to continue. We have got to hold all law enforcement to a higher standard. We have to demand it. I also agree, we need to make sure racist are not allowed to hold positions of power in this country.
